Project Snapshot
Have you ever heard about a social media platform that doesn’t just let you share your life, but saves it? We have built Culpability, a social media-inspired app that opportunes US citizens and law enforcement alike to capture, report, and view real-time incidents – good and bad.
In moments of crises, public emergencies, incidents, or police encounters, app users can send instant SOS alerts to their trusted groups, backed by live audio and video streams.
The need to build Culpability
The stark reality in the United States shows African Americans are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by police than Caucasians. Black women face a 1.4 times higher risk of deadly encounters. These chilling stats fueled the development of Culpability. Our client had experienced firsthand challenges from both sides of the justice system. Additionally, coming from the law enforcement family, our client was determined to create a Culpability – a digital guardian, ensuring every citizen has a voice and every incident is seen.
TOPS Strategies in Action
When TOPS Infosolutions took on the mobile app development of Culpability, we didn’t just want to build an app, we wanted to solve the core challenges of US citizens’ safety.
Human-Centered Design – Our team made sure that the app was as easy to use as sending a text – because when emergencies happen, every second counts.
Real-Time Communications – Seamless like audio/video streaming for instant alerts.
Fortress-like Security – Our team embedded state-of-the-art encryption, ensuring every interaction and incident is protected.
All-in-One User Experience – Designed with a complete blend of social media features and emergency tools to give users control over their safety.
Challenges We encountered
- Streaming in Stressful Moments: We had to ensure that live audio/video streams worked smoothly despite poor network coverage.
- Balancing Privacy With Public Safety: Data privacy while building flexible social media features for easier incident reporting required careful engineering.
- Accurate Location Tracking: Pinpointing a location within seconds of an incident, no matter where the user is, meant deploying advanced location pinning functionalities.
- Designing For Safety and Crises: We had to brainstorm what a user would need in the most stressful or deadly incident of their life. The app had to be intuitive, reliable, and faster.
- Customizable Circle Management: Building a social network within the emergency SOS app requires a flexible design to accommodate user’s different groups like family, friends, colleagues, or more while maintaining control and privacy.
